Retirement Savings and Withdrawal Scenario Comparison
Build scenarios to compare your retirement savings based on your initial investment balance, annual contribution, estimated yield and withdraw rates.
- This calculator assumes that contributions increase at a fixed percentage rate over your lifetime. In practice, if you are contributing at the IRS maximum limit, the contribution limit itself may change year over year. For example, there was no change between 2020 and 2021 ($19,500), while the limit increased from $20,500 to $22,500 between 2022 and 2023.
- This calculator assumes withdrawals occur at a fixed percentage rate. In reality, withdrawals may be constrained by Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs), which mandate a minimum withdrawal percentage starting at age 73. This requirement does not apply to Roth 401(k) or Roth IRA accounts.
- This calculator simplifies annual investment growth by assuming that each year’s contribution is added to your account at the end of the year. In reality, contributions are typically made throughout the year (for example, via monthly or bi-weekly paychecks), which may benefit from market growth during the same year.
